Personal gear each person should have

socks + extra socks (inner/outer)

1-2 water bottles (at least a quart)

boots (preferably waterproofed)

ground pad

camp shoes (light)

sleeping bag

long underwear - top & bottom

stuff sacks for sleeping bag & gear

long pants and/or wind pants

backpack with padded hip belt **

shorts

pack cover (garbage bag works)

underwear

day or fanny pack (optional)

1-2 T-shirts

sit pad or crazy creek type chair (optional)

long sleeved shirt

waterproof matches

wool or fleece shirt/jacket

toilet paper

windbreaker and/or parka

wash cloth and/or wash ‘n dries

rain gear (poncho/parka/anorak & pants)

personal hygiene and 1st Aid items (biodegradable soap only!)

mittens or gloves

a big smile

visor or brimmed hat

2-3 Ziploc bags

wool hat and/or ear band

moleskin or athletic or duct tape or Compeed

hankies or bandannas

sunglasses

headlamp or flashlight

lip sunscreen

whistle

sunscreen

trail snacks, hard candy

insect repellent

individual lunches

pen or pencil and paper (little notebook)

gaiters (optional - depending on terrain)

cup, bowl, spoon, fork, knife

camera & film (optional)

binoculars and/or hand lens (optional)

Please avoid too much cotton clothing as it is useless for insulation if it gets wet. Make sure to have some synthetic clothes or at least cotton/poly blend.

** NO Daypacks. Backpack must have an adjustable suspension system and good padded hip belt! Pack should have about 3000 cu. inches of space (or more).
